COVID-19 has accelerated the digitalization of the tourism industry and investments are key to tourism recovery.”

With impacts of COVID-19, tourism businesses are transforming their business models with an increased adoption of technology and digitalization of their operations. Business investments are now aimed at innovating and reshaping their products and services in addition to most importantly, building resilience.

This session will breakdown the role of digital technology within the tourism workforce, its impacts on work organizations and the skills needed to recover and operate post COVID-19.

Attend and learn how digitalization has opened new opportunities for the tourism sector to become more resilient, compete for new markets and learn how to better prepare yourself and staff for the increased shift towards digital services. In addition, you will get a better understanding of how the digital economy is transforming the visitor experience and see the new technological practices that are needed to engage customers, conduct marketing, develop products, or deliver services.

Facilitator: Philip Mondor; HR Tourism Canada, President and CEO

Facilitator Bio: For more than 30 years, Philip has worked with labour market stakeholders across Canada and abroad including foreign governments, pan-global organizations, Canadian and non-Canadian businesses, and various education and training bodies. His work spans over 15 industrial sectors and in 11 countries, with most of his career focused on the tourism industry.    

Philip is an industry representative to the Deputy Ministers Advisory Council, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada. He is an advisory member of the Labour Market Information Council, the Future Skills Centre Research Advisory Board, and the Ted Rogers School of Hospitality and Tourism Management, Ryerson University. He is the recipient of the 2020 Ryerson Ted Rogers Industry Award
